Stockton travel to Rovers
By Kevin Coates
Good day on the pitch
Stockton arrived at Hartlepool Rovers where (due to the new rules) both sides decided that we would play 4 quarters of 15 minutes and use the match as a training session for both teams.
Hartlepool Rovers kicked off and Stockton immediately applied pressure to the Rovers line. This pressure paid off with Tom Johnson capitalising on a lose ball and went over for the first try of the season. This was soon followed up with Colin shaking off a number of Rover defenders to run from the half way line to score underneath the posts. Stockton kept the pressure up with scores from Christian, Joe Riddle and Ollie scoring multiple times. At the end of the first quarter the score was 43-0.
In the second quarter Stockton made a number of changes to allow some new players to gain some experience. Stockton kick off and Rovers started to apply pressure to the Stockton line. However solid defense kept Rovers at bay allow Rovers to make a few mistakes which Stockton took advantage of. Ollie and Joe Riddle scored again taking the score to 53-0.
In the 3rd and 4th Quarter Rovers scored 3 tries while Stockton score 5 more with Ben scoring two, (sorry cannot remember who else scored) taking the final score 68-15.
Thank you for those Stockton players who played for Rovers as they were short in a number of key areas. It was good to see especially in the 3rd and 4th quarters that these more experienced players not only helped the Rovers players by talking to them but where competitive when playing against us.
I know that the Rovers coach was very complementary in your attitude and discipline (especially with some hard referee decisions)
Well done everyone. See you all on Wednesday.
